The car company wouldn't accept the insurance and forced me to take theirs

Thank you for the feedback, you are unhappy not due to our actions but those of the hire car company.

We have an FAQ on this subject:

Q. Does the car hire company need to see my Certificate of Insurance?

A.No. Our policy, subject to the terms & conditions of the Policy Wording, reimburses you for the amounts that are taken by your car hire company from your credit card. In the event of an excess deduction by your car hire company you need to ensure that you collect all the documents and evidence as described in our Policy Wording. When you return home you reclaim the excess deductions from us.

They may still try and sell you their additional excess waiver policy, but you may simply decline as you are covered. The coverage is between ReduceMyExcess and yourself and so the car rental company does not need to approve it.

Unfortunately, unscrupulous hire car companies or employees of these companies are deceiving many people into buying their cover. Unleess it is specifically in their rental agreement (sometimes age-related reasons) then they may not force you to take out their excess cover.

We are sorry that you were misled by the hire car company.

Finding Reduce My Excess from Google was easy and once on the website it was clear to me that this was an excellent website to do business with. Clear, well-laid out and everything explained in plain English made for a trouble-free and reassuring buying experience. The automatic discount was a pleasant bonus and added to the whole positive experience of getting some insurance to cover the £1000 car hire excess Europcar were charging my credit card. Incidentally, when I did pick up the car, I was upgraded at the desk to £250 excess, so good on Europcar!
