New research: Top 10 most Instagrammed cars in 2024

Social media is an integral part of our lives, with 66,000 photos shared on Instagram every minute.

Recently, the team at ReduceMyExcess carried out an extensive study of the most popular cars on Instagram, which revealed some fascinating insights and results.

We took 2,000 of the most popular cars and counted the number of unique Instagram posts featuring those vehicles.

From there, we determined which models were the most photographed and posted online.

1. Ford Fiesta

Claiming the top spot with an impressive 23,400,189 Instagram posts is the much-loved Ford Fiesta.

Initially released in 1976, the Ford Fiesta continued to dominate the automotive market, with over 4,500,000 sold in the UK alone.

Renowned for its compact size and affordability, the Ford Fiesta continues to reign supreme, with over 1.5 million still on the road.

The Ford Fiesta ST is proving immensely popular on Instagram, with posters sharing the trips they take their hot hatches on.

2. Lexus IS

Next up is the sleek and stylish Lexus IS, which has been posted an incredible 17,024,833 times across Instagram.

Lexus announced their most recent sales figures, which showed that they had sold a global record high of 824,258 units in 2023, a 32% increase on the previous year.

These figures are no surprise, as the latest collection of Lexus’ cars were designed to be bigger, more luxurious, and have lower running costs.

There is no doubt Lexus will continue to claim a spot in the top ten most Instagrammed cars, with approximately 15,416 currently running on UK roads, and their latest release of the Lexus IS 350.

3. Nissan GT-R

Over the last year, Nissan has seen a resurgence in popularity for their GT-R model.

This could be due to Nissan’s complete redesign of the vehicle, which includes new rear wing designs, exclusive paint colours, and redesigned front and rear fascias.

In addition to a jump in sales figures, Nissan’s facelift of the GT-R has got people talking online, with 10,711,332 posts recorded under the hashtag #gtr.

4. Honda Civic

Since its first release in 1972, Honda has strived to continuously make improvements to the model, putting comfort, performance, and drive first.

These enhancements have seen the vehicle increase in popularity, with reported sales of 200,381 units in 2023.

Moreover, the car has recently been recognised as the ‘Best Medium Family Car’ for 2024 for the second year running, so no doubt, its popularity will continue to rise.

5. Jeep Wrangler

You may or may not be surprised to see the Jeep Wrangler in fifth place.

While sales for the brand have seen a slight decline over the past few years, Jeep recently announced the sale of their five millionth Jeep Wrangler.

They are also a favourite among celebrities, including David Beckham, Beyonce, and Harrison Ford.

Currently, the hashtag #wrangler is attributed to 5,102,234 Instagram posts, which may continue to rise following the release of their latest off-road model, the hybrid 2024 Jeep Wrangler SUV.

6. SEAT Leon

Recognised for its compact shape, sporty exterior, and contemporary interiors, it is clear to see why the SEAT Leon is so popular.

SEAT S.A. reported a 35% increase in sales in 2023; its second-highest sales volume in history.

In addition, the SEAT Leon has previously been awarded the Best Family Car of the Year award for two years running.

The vehicle’s popularity doesn’t stop there, with this model tagged across a staggering 4,933,527 posts on Instagram.

7. Ford Mustang

A car that needs no introduction is the stylish and classic Ford Mustang.

The model took its rightful crown as the best-selling sports car in the world over the last 10 years in 2023, coinciding with the brand’s 59th birthday.

Demand for the Ford Mustang has seen a significant increase, particularly in the US, with the car accounting for 78% of global sales last year.

Currently, tagged across 4,870,827 posts on Instagram, it looks like the vehicle's popularity will only increase, with the brand releasing three new models in 2024.

8. Mini Cooper

Arguably one of the most recognisable cars in the world, the Mini Cooper is officially the eighth most Instagrammed car, with 4,332,348 posts featuring the hashtag #minicooper.

Sold in over 70 countries around the world, the brand sold 295,474 units last year, with fully electric models up 3.5% (45,261 units).

Similar to other brands, MINI is setting its sights on an electric future and reducing CO2 emissions.

This has been moving in the right direction for them so far, with 45,261 customers opting to go fully electric when purchasing their new drive.

9. Audi TT

Last year, Audi announced that it would no longer continue to manufacture its much-loved TT model.

Audi aims to match their competitor's offerings by switching focus towards electric vehicles after they announced a €15 billion investment in electric vehicles by 2025.

Moreover, the brand was seeing declining sales for the TT without a sufficient return on investment.

However, all these factors have not affected the popularity of the car model on Instagram, with the hashtag #tt included in 4,122,320 posts.

10. Toyota Landcruiser

Taking the final spot in the top 10 is Toyota’s formidable Landcruiser, which is tagged across 4,091,495 Instagram posts.

The model is renowned for its durability, sophisticated technology, and off-road capabilities.

Toyota currently sells its Land Cruiser throughout 170 countries and reports annual global sales of approximately 400,000 units.
