1. I did not get the car what I wanted to hire, but got another one for doubled price. 2. I did not get the 1100 EUR deposit back despite of number of calls and emails. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! UNPROFESSIONAL.

Heard numerous horror stories regarding car hire in Malaga, which were confirmed by a couple we met at Luggage Collect who own a property in Spain and hired a car on their many visit. Malaga Car seemed to have relatively positive reviews so we planned for the worst and hoped for the best. Malagacar isn't on site but as we had pre booked got emailed instructions on where and how to find them which was simple enough. They took us on an extremely short shuttle journey to their site just outside the airport. With details in hand, I was preparing myself for the "hard sell" on insurance, which we'd read up on regarding car hire in Malaga in general. Too my surprise there was no hard sell, in fact it wasn't mentioned once! Obviously I had purchased insurance prior to arriving, although this doesn't seem to stop some companies. Once the paperwork was out of the way and paid for we were shown to our vehicle. It wasn't new and had several pre existing scratches and dents but nothing too substantial, still best to make a note of as many as you can see just in case. After surveying the car, photographing all the existing damage I checked my credit card app to see what money had been taken, good job I did as I had been overcharged by approximately €40. I went back in and questioned the overcharging, wasn't sure if it was deliberate or accidental but they quickly refunded the difference and apologised of sorts. The car itself was fine, no issues really apart for the existing damage. Upon returning the car the vehicle was quickly checked, once again I had heard horror stories but not to be. We were then processed quickly onto the shuttle back to the airport. If it wasn't for the overcharging I would rate Malagacar 7 or 8 from the experience I had but they did overcharge and I don't like to think about how difficult it would be to get the difference refunded over the phone or email.

The pickup from the airport wasn't entirely clear from the directions given but we managed to figure it out. The bus ride was only a handy 3 minute journey and the paper work was sorted in 10 minutes. The car was completely covered in dents and scratches so I took all round photos, ensuring that the company saw me do this and I made them write the dents on the paperwork as they weren't going to do this. This is the best precaution as I got caught out last year with a well known hire company beginning with 'H', who claimed I had scraped the car when I knew the dent was there on pickup (and even marked on the paperwork). You live and learn, eh? This time, the holiday was great, the car ran great and returning it was easy. I asked if everything was ok with the car and if they wanted to go around it - they didn't seem bothered. So, I assume that, at this stage, all is good - result. I just read Jon, the CEO's, advice and it matches mine: take pictures, badger the staff to write the dents and scratches on the diagram and badger them on the return - it all adds up to a better, stress-free (and cheaper) holiday. Having the RME cover is the cheapest way to get great cover without the car hire staff badgering you for 'only' €40 extra per day. What's not to like? Happy Summer motoring!
